Welke linux voor oude computer?+

Ik heb nog een oud laptopke vanonder het stof gehaald die lag te verkommeren in een hoekje, een Toshiba 410CDT, Pentium 1 - 100Mhz met 40Mb ram en 800Mb HDD. Hij draait perfect met Win98, maar om te prutsen wil ik daar eens een Linux op gooien. De installatie van Mandriva gaat niet, te hoge specificaties nodig.
Welke linux zal er op dat systeempje redelijk vlot draaien, compleet met KDE en een office-suite?

Ik vrees dat voor KDE zal moeten passen met je 40 Mb RAM als je voor klassieke distro's gaat.

DSL is a very versatile 50MB mini desktop oriented Linux distribution.
Damn Small is small enough and smart enough to do the following things:
* Boot from a business card CD as a live linux distribution (LiveCD)
* Boot from a USB pen drive
* Boot from within a host operating system (that's right, it can run *inside* Windows)
* Run very nicely from an IDE Compact Flash drive via a method we call "frugal install"
* Transform into a Debian OS with a traditional hard drive install
* Run light enough to power a 486DX with 16MB of Ram
* Run fully in RAM with as little as 128MB (you will be amazed at how fast your computer can be!)
* Modularly grow -- DSL is highly extendable without the need to customize

SLAX is not pretentious, nevertheless it requires some minimal hardware to run properly. It depends on what do you wish to use SLAX for, of course. The most important thing is memory. You need at least 30 MB of RAM to boot slax. More detailed description follows:
Medium
either IDE connected CDROM (to boot from the CD)
or USB FlashDisk (to boot from the mass storage device)
or maybe some harddisk (to boot SLAX from the disk)
BIOS
either non-emulation booting enabled (to boot from the CD)
or USB FlashDrive booting enabled (to boot from the mass storage device)
Memory
30 MB to boot slax.
64 MB to run Xwindow with fluxbox (guifast)
128 MB to run Xwindow with KDE (gui or guisafe)
Processor
i486 or better, Pentium or AMD are both OK.
Peripheral devices :
some keyboard
PS/2 or USB connected mouse (required for Xwindow only)
serial (COM) mouse is not automatically recognized, but can be used
Harddisk : No harddisk is required
Alhoewel beide je een GUI geven zit je met je 40 Mb RAM onder de grens van 64 Mb die je toch zou moeten halen. Maar wie nie waagt, nie wint.

Even SLAX downloaden en ik weet wat te doen in het weekend, ze voorspellen toch slecht weer
En SIOUX, ook bedankt, ik kende het al, maar het is interessant voor de andere gebruikers.
